Scholarship Description. The American Foreign Service Association (AFSA) offers students an opportunity to compete in its High School Essay Contest. Students will explore the role of the Foreign Service and civilian government in promoting peace, national security, and economic prosperity around the world. Applicants must write a 1,, essay that corresponds to the essay prompt FSYF is pleased to offer two academic merit award (scholarships) for college-bound seniors and gap year students, who intend to attend college in the following Fall. FSYF offers a $2, one-time award and a $1, one-time award. Applicants must be FSYF Members by the time they submit their application. AFSA offers need-based Financial Aid Scholarships to high school seniors or full-time undergraduate college freshmen, sophomores, or juniors.
